Do you need to worry about compliance?

Quite simply, if you are offering a service to the public on your website, you do need to concern yourself with accessibility regulations.

What are the regulations that affect me?

Under UK law, all websites offering a service to the public, are subject to the Disability Discrimination Act 1995. Under this act, anybody with a disability who feels that your website fails to make "reasonable adjustments" to allow them access to your service, can make a complaint against you in a court of law.

There are standards set by national and international, governmental and non-governmental organisations which interpret both UK and foreign law relating to accessibility. In the UK, the Royal National Institute of the Blind offers rigorous guidelines. Internationally, the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) make recommendations in their Website Accessibility Guidelines (WAG) version 1.0.

What disabilities can I adjust my website to assist?

One out of every hundred people accessing your site will be unable to view it properly due to dyslexia, visual impairment or perhaps even complete blindness. We have products that can connect easily with existing sites, which enable speech readers to speak your website to the user, thereby offering a reasonable adjustment to make your site accessible.
